Welcome to King's Karate!
Building up Godly individuals through an encouraging atmosphere of Biblical and karate-based instruction.
We believe that as Christians, our
highest priority is to glorify God in all things. We use the techniques of
karate and self-defense as tools to instill godly values and bring forth the
fruits of the Spirit in the participants, their parents, and the leadership of
the class. The general atmosphere
is very supportive and encouraging.
While we do maintain a level of discipline in the class, we do so in a
Biblical manner, assuring each other of our identity in
Christ. Glorifying God and becoming more like Christ are the motivations for
our discipline. All self-defense
is taught with a special emphasis on self-control, so that students know when
it is appropriate to use and when it is not. Therefore, we discourage anger and aggression as part of our
technique, as they are not conducive to the fruits of the Spirit. We have committed ourselves to
glorifying Him in every action we choose to make.
History of the King’s Karate
Style:
This style of karate is based largely on the Korean Tang Soo
Do style. The forms (katas) and
the basics (traditional blocks, kicks, punches, stances, rolls, etc.) are from
that style. However, even in these
things, there are small stylistic differences in execution of movements and
later in the training cycle other non-traditional techniques are mixed. Thus, the king’s karate is an
independent system of “American
Karate” and does not identify with any of the traditional styles.

Class Attendance, Scheduling
and Testing:
Each semester will consist of roughly 15 weeks of instruction. Students may register at any time
during the semester, although registering within the first three weeks of class
is highly recommended.
Registration involves purchasing a uniform, completing a release form, and
paying the class fee. At the end
of each semester, students are encouraged to test for their next rank. They will be tested using the
techniques listed on the Testing Requirement sheets, which are available from
instructors at any time. In order
to test, a student must not miss more than two classes over the course of the
semester. Anyone who is at least 6 years old may join King’s Karate.
Tips for Getting the Most
out of Class:
Each student should keep a notebook with each rank’s requirements. This notebook can also
be used to keep any
notes on specific techniques, stretches, and principles. Since each rank builds on the ones that
come before, a notebook will be a good tool for review.
If you are a parent of a student: Engage in regular communication with
class instructors. We
are on the same
team, and want to work with you in developing individuals who love Jesus. If there are problems with discipline
at home or in class, we would like to work with you on such issues. We care about our students.
Use the time before and after class to work with
instructors and get individual tutoring throughout
the semester.
Practice techniques throughout the week. Learning karate once a week for one
hour will not be
sufficient to develop the level of refinement required for upward advancement
in rank
